Discovering geometrical figures by following "clues" that rule out the possibility of the figure being anything but 1 geometrical figure. The clues are simply the geometric characteristics of the shape. For example for a rectangle you could give the following clues:
- it has a total of 4 sides.
- it forms a closed figure.
- two of its sides have the same length and are parallel.
- one pair of sides is longer than the other pair.
- the other two sides have the same length and are parallel.
- it has four right angles.
The instructions were detailed enough to rule out the possibility of it referring to multiple geometrical figures.
It was a reverse way of learning and working with the geometrical characteristics. Instead of starting with the figure and asking students to describe it, they are given the description and by following it they build and discover the geometrical shape
